Admission Process

Admission to the Thakur College International Program for Technology and Business will be managed through a structured process to ensure that qualified and motivated students are selected. The process involves meeting academic and language criteria, following the application steps, and adhering to the intake timeline.

Eligibility Criteria

Academic Qualifications : Applicants must have completed their Higher Secondary Certificate (10+2) or equivalent qualification. For the Technology stream, a background in Science (with Mathematics) is highly recommended, whereas for the Business stream, students from Commerce, Arts, or Science are eligible (Commerce or Mathematics background is preferred for certain business specialisations). A minimum academic score requirement (e.g., an aggregate percentage or GPA) will be set by the college – for instance, a recommended threshold might be 60% in 12th standard or equivalent (exact cut-off to be decided and can be adjusted each year based on the applicant pool). The selection seeks students with a strong foundational knowledge and the ability to handle an academically rigorous program.

English Proficiency: Since the medium of instruction is English and students will eventually study in an English-speaking university abroad, a good command of English is required. While not all students may have taken a standardised English test at the time of admission, proof of English proficiency will be required by the time of transfer to the foreign university. Students who already have an IELTS/TOEFL score can submit it during admission; others will undergo an English assessment at Thakur College and will be advised to take coaching if needed. By the end of the second year, students must meet the partner university’s language requirements (for example, a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 (with no band below 6.0) or TOEFL iBT 88, as commonly required for Canadian universities. Students not meeting this by the time of transfer may need to undergo additional English training at Thakur College. (During the two years at Thakur, the curriculum itself will emphasise language and communication skills to help students reach this level.)

Additional Criteria: Applicants should be at most *[age limit, if any] (usually there is no strict upper age for undergraduate programs, but typical entrants are 17-19 years old). They should demonstrate a genuine interest in pursuing part of their studies abroad. In the application, students may be asked to write a brief statement of purpose indicating why they are interested in the Technology and Business international program – this helps gauge motivation. There is no entrance exam specific to this program beyond the standard 10+2 performance; however, students who have JEE/Main scores or other entrance test scores (for technology applicants) or CET scores can optionally submit them for reference.

All eligible applicants will be reviewed by an admissions committee. The committee will look for strong academic backgrounds and the capacity to thrive in an international articulation program. Meeting the minimum eligibility does not guarantee admission – the best-fit candidates in terms of academic merit and motivation will be selected, especially since the program might have limited seats in its initial years.

Application Steps & Timeline

The application process is designed to be clear and time-bound. The typical steps are:

  1. Inquiry and Counseling: Interested students (and parents) can first contact the International Program office at Thakur College for an informational counseling session. This session (available in-person or online) will explain program details, partner universities, and future prospects. It helps students make an informed decision before applying.

  2. Application Submission: Applicants fill out the International Program application form (available on the Thakur College website or admissions office). This may be a dedicated form or an addendum to the standard college admission form, clearly indicating the choice of the international 2+2 program. Along with the form, students must submit required documents: copies of 10th and 12th grade mark sheets, school leaving certificate, ID proof, and any English test scores (if available). An application fee of *[…] (to be determined) is payable at this stage.

  3. Entrance Interview/Assessment (if applicable): After initial shortlisting based on academic credentials, the college may conduct a brief personal interview (in person or via video call) to assess the student’s communication skills, clarity of goals, and suitability for the program. This is also an opportunity for the student to ask questions. In some cases, a written aptitude test or essay may be administered, mainly to gauge English proficiency and critical thinking (this can be waived if the student’s scores are very strong or if the program intake is small enough to judge based on existing scores).

  4. Admission Offer: Successful applicants will receive an Admission Offer Letter from Thakur College for the International Program. This letter will outline the next steps, including fee payment schedule and enrollment formalities. Unsuccessful candidates will also be notified in a timely manner, so they can pursue other options.

  5. Acceptance and Enrollment: Students who receive an offer must confirm their acceptance by paying the *admission confirmation fee […] by a stipulated deadline (usually within 1-2 weeks of offer). Following this, they will complete enrollment formalities: submitting original documents for verification, migrating their university registration (if needed) to Thakur College’s autonomous program, and attending an orientation.

  6. Orientation and Start of Classes: Prior to the commencement of classes, an orientation program will be held for admitted students and their parents. This will introduce them to the faculty, detail the curriculum, and reiterate the expectations (such as maintaining a certain GPA for transfer). Classes for the first semester will typically begin in July/August of the academic year.

Timeline: The program will have one main intake per year, aligned with the academic calendar. The admissions process begins soon after the 12th standard results are declared. A tentative timeline is:

  • Applications Open: April (of the year of admission)

  • Application Deadline: June end (with possible extensions if seats remain)

  • Interviews/Screening: June – early July

  • Admission Offers: Rolling offers during June/July, final offers by mid-July.

  • Program Start: Late July or Early August (aligning with the usual semester start at Thakur College).

(Intake Periods: At present, only a Fall (Monsoon) intake is planned each year.

All admitted students in a given intake form a cohort that will progress together through the two-year curriculum at Thakur College. The college will closely guide this cohort from admission until their transfer abroad.
